Tom Carey is a Managing Director of Proprium Capital Partners, L.P. focusing on asset management and underwriting in North America. Tom is a consultant that devotes a portion of his time to Proprium and is also working as a consultant for another private equity firm. Prior to working as a consultant, Tom was a Principal at Apollo Global Real Estate providing asset management for the Citi Property Investors Fund, a $600 million closed end real estate opportunity fund original sponsored by Citigroup. Properties under management included office buildings, land development, ground up construction projects, multi-family properties, hotel assets and for sale condominium projects.
Prior to joining Citigroup, from 2001-2007, Tom worked as a senior asset manager at Lend Lease Investment Management. Primary responsibilities included office buildings in Manhattan and suburban office buildings in the Northeastern United States. In 2003, Morgan Stanley acquired Lend Lease’s real estate investment management business. At Morgan Stanley, Tom managed a variety of property types for separate account clients, Prime Property Fund and MSREF.
From 1994-2001, Tom founded and ran a real estate asset management firm, Stoneboat Asset Management. His primary clients were a partnership of two high net worth individuals and a South Florida real estate development and management firm.
From 1989-1993, Tom managed the real estate assets of Trian Group, LP, a private merchant-banking firm with interests in manufacturing, fast food retailing and real estate. Tom was SVP- Real Estate responsible for all the firm’s real estate investments.
Tom began his career with Citicorp Real Estate Inc (“CREI”) based in New York and Dallas where he was primarily a balance sheet real estate lender for construction loans, national homebuilders and mortgage bankers. He was a Senior Credit Officer.
